Another super successful and innovative client of Bonpak is the sweetest little delight, Heaven in a Jar. This small business blends the whimsical and the delicious, and serves up some interesting insights into running your own business.
1. How did Heaven in a Jar start?
The business started in 2014 when my father got very ill. He was in ICU for a month and we realised that there was a strong possibility that he would need an oxygen tank when he got out of hospital. I needed to find a way to make some extra money to help him as I could not afford it at that stage. One of my friends told me to look for cakes that they were seeking in jars. It soon became delicious desserts and I created all my own recipes from there.
My father made an excellent recovery. Although he could not return to work he doesn’t need an oxygen machine anymore and is doing well
2. What is your personal favourite dessert in a jar?
I don’t have a favourite, they are all so divine! I can’t possibly choose only one.
3. Where can we find Heaven in a Jar?
We’re based in Secunda, Mpumalanga
4. What advice would you give to small business owners?
Don’t give up. You will work a lot harder when you work for yourself but the rewards are so much more. Always believe in yourself and follow your heart. Keep your standards high and always treat your customers the way that you would like to be treated. The possibilities are endless.
